Anje Falkenrath

Anje Falkenrath was introduced in the 2019 Commander set, specifically as the face commander for the 'Madness' themed deck titled 'Merciless Rage.' Designed by Wizards of the Coast as part of a series of pre-constructed decks that explored distinct mechanical archetypes, the card serves as a thematic anchor for the vampire faction within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The character is rooted in the gothic horror setting of Innistrad, where the Falkenrath family stands as one of the most prominent and ruthless vampire houses.

The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, who utilized a moody, atmospheric aesthetic to capture the chaotic nature of the Madness ability. The design focuses on the character's role as a manipulator of frenzy, encouraging players to discard cards to draw new ones, which aligns with the frantic, blood-fueled cycle of her house. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the Commander community for providing a reliable, synergistic engine for graveyard-focused strategies, quickly becoming a staple for players looking to pilot aggressive, high-velocity decks.
