Where it came from
An Incident Has Occurred was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, the fourth installment in the Magic: The Gathering 'Un-' series. These sets are designed to push the boundaries of traditional game mechanics through humor and meta-commentary, allowing for designs that would be impossible in standard, legal-play environments. This particular card serves as a thematic nod to workplace mishaps, fitting into the carnival-themed science fiction aesthetic of the set.
The card was illustrated by artist Matt Dixon, whose style often leans into expressive, character-driven work. In this design, the visual focus is on conveying a sense of chaotic, lighthearted disaster, matching the Unfinity design team's goal of creating memorable, 'silver-border' style experiences that prioritize player engagement and whimsy over the strict competitive balance found in other expansions.
