Annie Flash, the Veteran // Annie Flash, the Veteran

Annie Flash, the Veteran is part of the Art Series released in 2024 alongside the Outlaws of Thunder Junction expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These cards are collector-focused items designed to highlight the high-fantasy western aesthetic of the set, providing players and collectors with an oversized, borderless version of the illustration found on the standard play cards. They are typically found in collector boosters and serve to celebrate the visual storytelling involved in the game’s transition into new planes of existence.

The artwork for this piece was crafted by artist Volkan Baga, who is recognized for his evocative and detailed character portraits within the game. Baga aimed to capture the gritty, weathered essence of a hardened frontier gunslinger, utilizing lighting and texture to emphasize the character's storied past. Upon release, the piece was well-received by fans for its cinematic quality, which effectively bridged the gap between traditional fantasy art and the specific thematic requirements of the Thunder Junction setting.
