Ape

The Ape token, collector number 14, was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 Commander token set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. These tokens are produced by Wizards of the Coast to serve as auxiliary game pieces, representing specific creatures created by card abilities during gameplay. In the context of Modern Horizons 3, the token was designed to support the set's focus on high-power, nostalgic, and complex mechanics, providing players with a tactile physical representation of game-state modifications.

The visual design of this token follows the thematic art direction established for the Modern Horizons 3 expansion, which emphasizes a distinct, high-fidelity fantasy aesthetic. Like other tokens in this release, it was crafted by the internal art team and commissioned illustrators to ensure consistency with the set's overall artistic language. While tokens are often considered utilitarian components rather than collectible centerpieces, they are sought after by players who prefer the original Wizards of the Coast art over third-party alternatives to maintain visual continuity during tournament play.
