Ape

The Ape token, collector number 15, was released as part of the ancillary content for the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander set in 2024. These tokens were designed to serve as physical representations for effects within the game, such as the ability generated by the card 'Gorilla Titan' or similar mechanics that bring Ape creatures onto the battlefield. This set leaned heavily into a western-themed aesthetic, blending the high-fantasy elements of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse with tropes from frontier stories and outlaw folklore.

The art for these tokens was produced as part of the broader visual identity for the Thunder Junction expansion, which sought to capture a rugged, sun-drenched atmosphere. Artists working on the set were tasked with translating traditional creature types into this specific stylistic frame. While individual token illustrators are often credited collectively within the set's production documentation, this specific design choice reflects a deliberate move to maintain aesthetic consistency across the various play aids associated with the expansion's unique card mechanics.
