Arc Lightning

Arc Lightning was included in the 1999 World Championship Decks, a specialized product line released by Wizards of the Coast to celebrate the top-performing decks from the Magic: The Gathering World Championship tournament. These decks were carefully curated replicas of those piloted by professional players in the late 1990s, offering casual players a chance to experience high-level competitive builds using cards that featured gold-bordered backs and unique artist signatures on the face of the card, effectively rendering them ineligible for standard tournament play.

The card itself features the iconic illustration by Greg Staples, who captured the raw, crackling energy of a cascading electrical discharge. When the card was introduced in the Tempest expansion in 1997, it was widely praised for its utility in limited formats and aggressive red-based strategies. Its inclusion in the 1999 commemorative set solidified its status as a staple of the era, reflecting the design philosophy of the time where efficient, multi-target damage spells were crucial for board control.
