Where it came from
Arcane Proxy was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War, a Magic: The Gathering expansion set that revisited the iconic historical conflict between the artificer brothers Urza and Mishra. Designed to embody the set's central themes of artifact manipulation and mechanical repurposing, the card introduced the 'prototype' mechanic, allowing players to cast the creature for a lower cost at the expense of reduced power and toughness.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who depicted the construct as a sleek, modular entity that reflects the industrial aesthetic of the Brothers' War era. Its design is characterized by its ability to replicate spells from the graveyard, a functional homage to the resourcefulness required during the depicted conflict. The card was well-received by players for its versatility and its seamless integration of complex strategic utility with the set's overarching narrative of scavenged technology.
