Where it came from
Arcane Proxy was released as part of the 2022 expansion set, The Brothers' War, a thematic return to the lore of Magic: The Gathering's iconic conflict between Urza and Mishra. This specific card, numbered 75p, belongs to the promotional set of the release, featuring a distinct frame treatment that highlights the mechanical, artifact-centric aesthetic central to the set's narrative of industrial warfare and ancient technology.
The card was illustrated by Donato Giancola, a highly regarded fantasy artist known for his detailed, painterly style. In designing the Proxy, the intent was to evoke the feeling of a clockwork construct that archives magical knowledge, visually bridging the gap between the game's high-fantasy roots and the specific steampunk-inspired engineering of The Brothers' War. It was generally well-received by players for its versatile utility in spell-heavy decks, becoming a staple in both competitive and casual formats.
