Where it came from
Arcane Proxy was released as part of the 2022 expansion The Brothers' War, a set designed to evoke the high-fantasy industrial conflict between the siblings Urza and Mishra. This specific card, identified as collector number 75s, represents a promotional variant featuring the unique retro-artifact frame aesthetic that characterized much of the set's artistic direction, intended to pay homage to the original aesthetic of 1990s Magic: The Gathering.
The card was illustrated by Donato Giancola, a celebrated fantasy artist known for his detailed, classical approach to speculative fiction imagery. In the context of the game, the Arcane Proxy serves as a functional recursive tool, allowing players to cast instants or sorceries from their graveyard. Its design was praised for its utility and the thematic integration of clockwork machinery, effectively grounding the card's powerful mechanics in the lore of the artificers of Dominaria.
