Where it came from
Auroral Procession was released as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm expansion, a set designed to evoke the high-fantasy themes of temporal displacement and draconic warfare central to the Tarkir plane's lore. The card reflects the set's mechanical focus on shifting timelines and powerful, multi-color magical effects, intended to provide strategic depth for players looking to manipulate the board state through thematic, atmospheric spells.
The visual design of the card emphasizes the ethereal, shifting light patterns associated with the magical phenomena of the setting. Illustrators for the set were tasked with capturing a sense of scale and wonder, aiming to ground the fantastical elements of the card within the established aesthetic of the plane. Upon its release, the card was received as a niche utility piece, valued primarily by players building decks focused on specific mechanical synergies.
