Where it came from
The Aven Initiate token was released as part of the Double Masters 2022 set in July 2022. In Magic: The Gathering, tokens are auxiliary cards used to represent creatures created by the effects of other cards, and this specific token was designed to support the mechanical requirements of cards featuring the 'embalm' or 'eternalize' keywords that appeared throughout the set's curated reprint experience.
The art for this token follows the established aesthetic of the Aven, the avian humanoid race native to the plane of Amonkhet. Illustrated to maintain visual consistency with the original Amonkhet block, the design emphasizes the creature's monastic, white-aligned nature, providing players with a functional yet thematic component that integrates seamlessly into the gameplay experience of the Double Masters draft environment.
