Where it came from
Awaken the Woods was released as part of the promotional offerings for the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion, The Brothers' War. The card was designed as a rare green sorcery, featuring a unique mechanical ability that scales based on the player's mana investment, reflecting the set's thematic focus on large-scale engineering and the mobilization of resources during the conflict between Urza and Mishra.
The illustration for this specific promotional version was created by artist Livia Prima, who utilized a lush, ethereal aesthetic to depict the forest coming to life. This variant was distributed through regional promotional channels as a foil-treated collectible, intended to offer players a distinct visual alternative to the standard version found in booster packs while emphasizing the artistry central to the game's collectible ecosystem.
