Where it came from
The Bag of Holding card was released as a promotional item for the Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2020. It was designed to function as an artifact that allows players to exile cards from their hand and retrieve them later, mechanically representing the legendary extradimensional storage item from Dungeons & Dragons lore. This inclusion served as a bridge between the two iconic tabletop properties, capitalizing on the shared ownership by Wizards of the Coast.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who opted for a high-fantasy aesthetic that highlights the shimmering, infinite depth of the bag. Within the community, the card was noted for its utility in graveyard-focused decks and its thematic accuracy to the source material. It was distributed through various promotional channels, including store events, and remains a favored piece for collectors who appreciate the crossover between Magic and the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse.
