Vilis, Broker of Blood

Vilis, Broker of Blood was introduced in the Core Set 2020 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in July 2019. The card was designed to represent a powerful demon entity within the game's lore, specifically tied to the plane of Shandalar, and it became noted for its high-impact ability that allows players to draw cards in exchange for life. This specific version, marked 122s, is a promotional variant that features unique card frames or foil treatments typical of the set's premium offerings, intended to appeal to collectors seeking distinct aesthetic iterations of high-rarity cards.

The visual design of Vilis was brought to life by artist Daarken, a frequent contributor to the franchise known for his dark and visceral fantasy aesthetic. The illustration aims to capture the character's role as a manipulative and formidable demon, utilizing sharp, angular features and a moody color palette to emphasize the card's black mana alignment. Upon release, the card was widely received by the player base as a potent inclusion for Commander and other singleton formats due to its engine-building potential, cementing its status as a sought-after staple in the game's secondary market.
