Provenance

Where it came from

The Bat token, numbered 2 in the Commander 2017 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in August 2017. It was designed to accompany the Vampire tribal deck titled 'Vampiric Bloodlust,' which featured cards that generated 1/1 black Bat creature tokens with flying to synergize with various mechanics in the deck.

The artwork for the token was commissioned to capture the gothic, eerie aesthetic central to the Innistrad plane, where the Vampire tribal theme originated. The piece follows the standard art direction for Magic: The Gathering tokens, prioritizing clear visual readability on the tabletop while maintaining the specific dark, supernatural tone consistent with the broader Commander 2017 product line.
