Battlefield Forge

Battlefield Forge was originally printed in the Antiquities expansion in 1994, representing the introduction of the pain land cycle to Magic: The Gathering. These lands were designed to provide flexible mana acceleration at the cost of life, serving as a staple utility piece for multi-colored decks throughout the early history of the game. Its inclusion in Ninth Edition in 2005 marked the card's transition into the modern Core Set era, providing a reliable foundation for competitive environments of the time.

The artwork for this specific version was rendered by artist Rob Alexander, who has contributed extensively to the visual identity of Magic: The Gathering landscapes. Alexander focused on creating a rugged, industrial aesthetic that conveyed the heat and intensity of mana forging, aligning with the card's function of generating both red and white energy. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its balance of utility and risk, remaining a persistent feature in deck-building strategies for many years.
