Provenance

Where it came from

Battlefield Forge was originally printed in the 2003 expansion set Mirrodin as a rare land card. It belongs to a cycle of pain lands that provide utility by tapping for either of two colors or tapping for a single colorless mana at the cost of one life. The design reflects the metallic, artifact-focused theme of the Mirrodin plane, where the landscape is sculpted from cold, industrial scrap.

This specific iteration from Commander 2020 features artwork by Johannes Voss, whose contribution captures the intense, forging aesthetic of the setting. As part of the Commander 2020 preconstructed decks, the card was reprinted to support the growing popularity of the multiplayer format, providing a reliable mana base for red-white decks. It remains a staple in the format due to its efficiency and ability to produce mana of both colors immediately upon entering the battlefield.
