Where it came from
Bearer of Silence was released in early 2016 as part of the Oath of the Gatewatch expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a colorless creature with the devoid keyword, it represents the influence of the Eldrazi titans on the plane of Zendikar. This specific iteration is a promotional version, distributed through the game's organized play program to encourage participation in local tournaments during the set's release window.
The card's art was created by the illustrator Jason Felix, who utilized a stark, alien aesthetic to emphasize the eerie nature of the Eldrazi. The design team focused on creating a flexible tool for competitive decks, allowing players to bridge early-game board presence with a late-game removal effect. Upon its release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its utility in Constructed formats, particularly within aggressive black-based decks.
