Provenance

Where it came from

The Bird token with collector number 4 was released in 2013 as part of the Theros expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were produced to represent creature permanents created by spells and abilities within the game, specifically appearing in booster packs to serve as physical trackers during gameplay. Their introduction coincided with the set’s Greek mythology-inspired theme, which emphasized the influence of gods and the enchantment-heavy nature of the Theros plane.

The card features artwork by Volkan Baga, a frequent contributor to the Magic: The Gathering universe. Baga designed the token to embody a classic, ethereal aesthetic that aligns with the divine and mystical atmosphere of the set. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its clear, evocative visual style, becoming a staple utility piece for those utilizing cards like Wingsteed Rider or other bird-generating mechanics.
