Where it came from
The Bird token, numbered 5 in the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set, was produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Released in 2024, this token is intended to represent the creature entities summoned into play by various cards within the Duskmourn expansion. Its design reflects the set's overarching aesthetic, which draws heavily from 1970s and 1980s horror tropes, emphasizing a sense of dread and eerie atmosphere that permeates the plane of Duskmourn.
The artwork for this specific token adheres to the thematic visual language established by the art directors at Wizards of the Coast to maintain consistency across the set's diverse creature types. By utilizing a distinct color palette and illustrative style consistent with the 'House of Horror' theme, the token serves as a functional gameplay aid while contributing to the immersive experience of the Duskmourn environment, which was designed to evoke a nostalgic yet unsettling experience for players.
