Black Ward

Black Ward was released in 1994 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Summer Magic set, internally referred to as Edgar. This limited print run was intended to correct errors found in the earlier Revised Edition, but the set itself was inadvertently released with its own unique production mistakes and rarity issues, leading it to become one of the most storied and sought-after anomalies in trading card history.

The card features artwork by Dan Frazier, a prominent illustrator for the game's early sets. His style for the series focused on high-contrast, evocative imagery that defined the visual language of the game's initial era. Despite the card's functional simplicity as a damage-prevention spell, its inclusion in the Summer Magic run has elevated it from a common gameplay tool to a significant piece of collectible history for enthusiasts of early card printing variants.
