Steal Artifact

Steal Artifact was originally printed in the 1994 Magic: The Gathering set known as Edgar, which was released as a limited edition for the summer season and later colloquially dubbed Summer Magic. Produced during a period of rapid growth for Wizards of the Coast, this set was intended to address distribution issues with the Revised Edition, though it became infamous for a series of printing errors that make the surviving cards highly distinct to collectors.

The card’s illustration was provided by Amy Weber, one of the original artists commissioned during the game's nascent stage. Weber, known for her contributions to the early aesthetic of Magic, utilized a painterly style that reflected the high-fantasy themes prevalent in the mid-nineties. The design remains a quintessential example of early blue-aligned utility cards, focusing on the mechanical theme of theft that has been a staple of the game's identity since its inception.
