What it does
3 generic mana blue mana: An opponent tells you a statement about themselves and secretly notes whether it's true or false. You guess which it is. If you guessed correctly, this creature gets +2/+0 and can't be blocked this turn.
Lying to a fish is such an unthinkable act, most planets don't even have a law against it.

Where it came from
Blufferfish was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to blend the game's mechanics with space-carnival themes and humor. This card specifically showcases the set's focus on experimental design and the 'attraction' mechanic, which introduces randomized side-board elements into traditional gameplay. It fits squarely within the game's long history of 'Un-sets,' which are lighthearted, standalone expansions that temporarily push the boundaries of established rules for entertainment.
The card features artwork by illustrator Simon Dominic, who utilized a whimsical, vibrant style to depict the creature's deceptive nature. Its design centers on a card-drawing ability that rewards the player for successfully bluffing their opponents, reinforcing the playful, social-deduction aspect of the set. Upon release, Blufferfish was noted by the community for its niche utility in casual formats, appreciated both for its thematic integration into the carnival aesthetic and its ability to facilitate engaging table talk.
