Provenance

Where it came from

The Boros Signet was originally released as part of the Ravnica: City of Guilds set in 2005, designed to serve as a cornerstone of the two-color mana ramp strategy. Representing the Boros Legion, a militaristic guild centered on justice and fire, the card was crafted to allow players to filter their mana pool while accelerating their game state. This iteration, featured in Modern Masters 2017, pays homage to the original mechanical function that made it a staple in various deck archetypes.

The art for this release maintains the aesthetic identity of the Boros guild, emphasizing the imagery of the sun-sword and organized discipline associated with the faction. By including it in a set designed to curate the most impactful cards from across Magic: The Gathering history, the designers reinforced the Signet’s status as a foundational utility piece. It remains a widely recognized component of Commander and older-format decks due to its efficiency and historical design consistency.
