What it does

Where it came from
Branching Evolution was introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Jumpstart. This product was designed as a unique, highly accessible entry point for players, utilizing a 'pick up and play' system where two randomized themed packs are shuffled together to create a deck. The card was specifically crafted to support the +1/+1 counter theme within the set, providing a powerful doubling effect that mirrors the popular mechanics found in previous cards like Doubling Season or Corpsejack Menace.
The artwork for Branching Evolution was illustrated by Simon Dominic, who employed a vibrant, organic aesthetic to capture the essence of rapid biological growth. The illustration features a sprawling, multi-limbed creature emerging from a lush landscape, visually representing the card’s ability to amplify growth mechanics. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the Commander community, where its utility in synergy-heavy decks quickly established it as a staple for green-aligned strategies.
