What it does
If one or more +1/+1 counters would be put on a creature you control, twice that many +1/+1 counters are put on that creature instead.
The Master discovered a new evolutionary path after tossing a human, a dog, and a cat into a vat of Forced Evolutionary Virus. He called his creations "centaurs" and unleashed them unto the wastes.

Where it came from
Branching Evolution was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Fallout Commander set, a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Bethesda Softworks. The card serves as a mechanical representation of the perk system found within the Fallout video game series, specifically referencing the way players adapt and strengthen their characters through complex decision trees in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
The card features thematic artwork commissioned specifically to mirror the aesthetic of the Fallout universe, focusing on the visual language of biological mutation and survival. It was designed by the Wizards of the Coast development team to fit within the green color identity of the game, emphasizing growth and counter manipulation, and was generally well-received by players for its synergy with token and +1/+1 counter strategies.
