Brazen Borrower // Petty Theft

Brazen Borrower was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine set, a Magic: The Gathering expansion inspired by Arthurian legend and classic fairy tales. This specific promotional version, designated 39p, features unique extended-art framing that became a hallmark of the set's collector-focused release strategy. The card was designed to highlight the 'Adventure' mechanic, allowing players to cast the Petty Theft spell before playing the creature itself, reflecting the mischievous nature of the Fae folk in the game's lore.

The artwork was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a renowned fantasy artist who sought to capture the nimble, trickster archetype of the character. By depicting the faerie in a dynamic, mid-flight pose, Villeneuve emphasized the card's utility as a tempo-shifting tool. Upon its release, the card received significant praise from both competitive players for its tactical flexibility and aesthetic collectors for the clarity and elegance of the extended-art treatment, cementing its status as one of the most iconic cards from the Eldraine block.
