Where it came from
Brisela, Voice of Nightmares debuted in the 2016 expansion Eldritch Moon as the result of the meld mechanic, which allows two distinct physical cards—Gisela, the Broken Blade and Bruna, the Fading Light—to be combined into a single, oversized creature. The card depicts the grotesque, eldritch fusion of two legendary angels, representing the corrupting influence of the Eldrazi titan Emrakul on the plane of Innistrad.
This specific iteration, numbered 5b, appears in the 'From the Vault: Transform' box set released in 2017. As part of this premium collection, the card features exclusive foil-etching and unique art treatments designed to celebrate the history of double-faced cards in Magic: The Gathering. The set was curated as a retrospective for established collectors, emphasizing the narrative and mechanical complexity introduced by the transform mechanic.
