Where it came from
Brushland was originally introduced as part of the Alpha set in 1993, representing the innovative concept of 'pain lands' within Magic: The Gathering. This specific oversized version was released as a promotional prize for the game's Organized Play league in the late 1990s, designed to serve as a high-visibility, commemorative display piece rather than for standard tournament deck use.
The art features the work of Jesper Myrfors, the original art director for Magic, who established the game's early visual language. These oversized cards were crafted to highlight the striking landscapes of the game's earliest sets, and they were received by the community as coveted mementos that celebrated the tactile growth of the hobby during the transition from local game store meetups to more formal league play.
