Where it came from
Brushland was originally printed in the 1995 Ice Age set, serving as one of the cycle of pain lands that allowed players to tap for colorless mana or pay one life for one of two colors. This specific version, featuring artwork by Titus Lunter, was released in the 2022 expansion The Brothers' War. The set served as a historical retrospective on the lore of Magic: The Gathering, specifically focusing on the conflict between brothers Urza and Mishra, which laid the foundation for the game's expansive narrative.
Titus Lunter’s illustration for this printing emphasizes the rugged, arid aesthetic characteristic of the card's namesake terrain within the lore. By revisiting this classic land design within the context of a set centered on the artificers' war, the card bridges the gap between early mechanical staples and the modern visual identity of the game. It was received as a functional and stylistically cohesive reprint, appealing to both players seeking efficient mana bases and collectors interested in the updated artistic interpretations of long-standing utility cards.
