Where it came from
Bruvac the Grandiloquent was first released in the Jumpstart expansion in 2020. It was designed as a legendary creature specifically tailored for the Commander format, focusing on the mill archetype by doubling the number of cards an opponent puts into their graveyard from their library. The card gained significant popularity among players who enjoy control-oriented and graveyard-centric strategies, leading to its inclusion on The List, a curated selection of reprints integrated into set booster packs.
The art was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose work is characterized by a distinctive, ethereal style that often emphasizes light and magical energy. In this depiction, Bruvac is presented as a scholarly, imposing figure, fitting the card's function as a master of library destruction. The design has been well received by the community for both its mechanical synergy with mill decks and its striking visual representation of a high-power wizard.
