Where it came from
Bruvac the Grandiloquent was released in 2020 as part of the Jumpstart set for the Magic: The Gathering card game. The set was designed to be a self-contained, randomized play experience where players combine two theme packs to create a functional deck, making it an accessible entry point for new players while introducing powerful, deck-specific legendary creatures to the game's Commander format.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who depicted Bruvac as a whimsical yet scholarly human advisor. The design centers on his unique ability to double the efficiency of mill-based strategies, which forces opponents to put cards from their library into their graveyard. Upon release, the card became a highly sought-after centerpiece for players looking to refine blue-aligned control decks, earning a reputation as a signature piece for niche strategy enthusiasts.
