Burrowing

Burrowing is a card from the Summer Magic set, also colloquially known as the Edgar set, which was released by Wizards of the Coast in 1994. This set is a distinct print run of the Revised Edition base set, characterized by unique color saturations and minor graphical inconsistencies that occurred during the production process at the Carta Mundi facility in Belgium. It is often considered a curiosity among collectors due to these unintentional variations compared to the standard Revised release.

The illustration for Burrowing, which depicts a creature emerging from the earth, was created by artist Anson Maddocks. As one of the original artists for the early Magic: The Gathering sets, Maddocks focused on a gritty, hand-drawn aesthetic that defined the visual language of the game's formative years. The card’s design reflects the early emphasis on simple, functional mechanics, and it remains a documented piece of the game's complex printing history.
