Meekstone

Meekstone was first printed in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield as part of the game's foundational mechanics. The card was conceived to provide a strategic check against creature-heavy decks, forcing creatures with high power to become tapped and remain so, effectively slowing the pace of combat. It reflects the early, experimental design philosophy of Magic, where simple, potent artifacts were used to establish board control.

The artwork for the Summer Magic/Edgar version is a reissue of the original illustration by Amy Weber. Weber's work in the early sets often leaned into a darker, more fantastical aesthetic that defined the game's initial visual identity. The Summer Magic set itself, often referred to as Edgar, is a rare printing from 1994 that resulted from an attempt to correct color issues in the Revised edition; it is highly sought after by collectors today due to its limited distribution and historical significance within the printing evolution of the game.
