Carnivorous Plant

Carnivorous Plant was released in 1997 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Anthologies box set. This collection was designed to celebrate the game's early years by reprinting iconic and representative cards from the Alpha, Beta, Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, and The Dark expansions. It served as a bridge for newer players to access foundational gameplay mechanics and classic aesthetic styles that had become increasingly difficult to acquire in the secondary market at the time.

The artwork was provided by Quinton Hoover, a prolific illustrator whose distinctive, painterly style defined the visual identity of early Magic cards. Hoover often utilized vibrant colors and flowing, organic lines, which perfectly suited the whimsical yet predatory nature of the Carnivorous Plant. While the card is a common creature and does not rank among the most powerful tournament staples, it is fondly remembered by long-time collectors for Hoover's unique contribution to the game's formative artistic era.
