Provenance

Where it came from

The 'Cats' front card is part of the themed deck packaging for the Magic: The Gathering set Jumpstart 2022. Released by Wizards of the Coast in December 2022, this product was designed to facilitate a quick-play format where players shuffle two themed decks together to create a functional deck. The front card serves as a thematic identifier, tucked into the plastic packaging to display the deck's contents and personality to the buyer.

The artistic direction for Jumpstart 2022 utilized a variety of styles, often leaning into the playful or exaggerated aesthetics characteristic of modern digital illustration in the trading card space. This specific card features whimsical, stylized feline artwork intended to evoke the lighthearted and chaotic nature of the 'Cats' deck archetype. It was received as a functional, collectible component of the set, primarily serving as a visual guide for the Jumpstart gameplay experience rather than a piece for traditional tournament play.
