Where it came from
The Morbid front card is a component of the Jumpstart 2022 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to facilitate quick, randomized play by allowing players to combine two pre-constructed 20-card packs. Released in late 2022, this set aimed to streamline the deck-building process while introducing new mechanical themes and providing reprints of iconic cards. The front card acts as a visual guide for the pack's theme, signaling the gameplay strategy contained within.
The design of the Jumpstart 2022 front cards features distinct, anime-inspired aesthetics, a departure from the traditional fantasy art style often associated with the game. These illustrations were commissioned from various artists to bring a modern, stylized flair to the set. The Morbid theme specifically centers on the graveyard-matters mechanic, emphasizing the dark, necromantic atmosphere inherent to the black mana color identity. The set was generally well-received by players for its high replayability and the inclusion of unique, highly collectible card variants.
