What it does
Whenever another Zombie you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.
He rose from the graf for every cobbler, tanner, and fool who'd been slaughtered in the parish—and they rose and shambled after him.

Where it came from
Champion of the Perished was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to function as a low-cost, high-scaling threat for Zombie tribal decks, reflecting the set's thematic focus on the macabre and the restless dead of the gothic horror-inspired plane of Innistrad.
The artwork was illustrated by Svetlin Velinov, who emphasized the chaotic and overwhelming nature of a rising undead horde. The card's design received positive attention from players for its efficiency in aggressive deck archetypes, quickly becoming a staple in formats where Zombie synergy is a viable strategy.
