What it does
Whenever another Zombie you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.
He rose from the graf for every cobbler, tanner, and fool who'd been slaughtered in the parish—and they rose and shambled after him.

Where it came from
Champion of the Perished is a rare creature card originally released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion set, Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. This specific version, identified by collector number 91s, serves as the promo treatment for the card. The set was designed to lean heavily into gothic horror tropes, reintroducing the plane of Innistrad with a narrative focus on the eternal night threatening its inhabitants. The card itself functions as a tribal synergy piece for Zombie-themed decks, scaling in power as players cast additional creatures of that type.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose style captures the visceral, decaying aesthetic central to the Innistrad line. In creating the character, the design team aimed to emphasize the relentless nature of the undead horde, reflecting the 'decayed' keyword mechanic introduced in the set. Upon its release, the card saw immediate adoption in multiple formats, including Commander and Standard, where it became a staple for aggressive graveyard-based strategies due to its efficient mana cost and potential for rapid growth.
