What it does
Whenever another Zombie you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.
He rose from the graf for every cobbler, tanner, and fool who'd been slaughtered in the parish—and they rose and shambled after him.

Where it came from
Champion of the Perished was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed as a low-cost, aggressive creature card to bolster the Zombie tribal archetype, reflecting the gothic horror theme of the Innistrad plane. Its ability allows it to grow in power whenever another Zombie enters the battlefield, making it a staple for graveyard-focused strategies.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who captured the grim, decaying aesthetic characteristic of the setting. The promo version, marked with collector number 91p, was distributed through various organized play channels and promotional events. It is widely recognized by players for its efficient design, which provides a high ceiling for growth in formats where creature density is high.
