Provenance

Where it came from

Circular Logic was originally released in the 2002 Torment expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed as a blue counterspell with a madness mechanic, it allowed players to cast the card for a reduced cost if it was discarded, fitting perfectly into the graveyard-centric strategies prevalent in the Odyssey block. The card's artwork, illustrated by Greg Staples, features a haunting, surreal aesthetic that complements the dark, gothic tone of the Torment set.

The version from the 2003 World Championship Decks was a direct reprint included in the deck piloted by Daniel Zink, the winner of the 2002 Magic World Championship. These decks were produced by Wizards of the Coast as commemorative products, featuring non-tournament-legal cards with gold borders and facsimile signatures. They were intended to provide players with a way to experience the high-level competitive builds that defined the professional meta-game during that specific tournament cycle.
