Where it came from
Circular Logic was originally released in the 2002 Torment expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by the Wizards of the Coast development team, the card is a blue instant featuring the madness mechanic, which allows players to cast the spell at a reduced cost when it is discarded. The artwork, provided by Dave Dorman, depicts a conceptual and surreal scene that reflects the psychological themes associated with the Torment set.
This specific iteration is from the 2002 World Championship Decks, a product line designed to showcase the strategies used by top-level professional players. These decks were printed with gold-bordered cards and non-standard backs, making them ineligible for tournament play but highly sought after as commemorative replicas. They were produced to offer fans an accessible way to experience the high-level competitive meta of the era, preserving the deck composition of a champion for public ownership.
