City of Brass

City of Brass was originally released as a rare land card in the 1994 Arabian Nights expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Its design, characterized by the ability to generate any color of mana at the cost of one life, quickly established it as a staple in competitive play. The oversized version, identified as card number 19, was produced as a promotional prize for Magic tournament players, specifically distributed through organized play leagues during the mid-to-late 1990s.

The artwork for the card features an illustration by Mark Poole, who captured the legendary and shimmering aesthetic of the titular city. The oversized format was intended primarily as a display piece or a prestige reward for high-performing players rather than for standard gameplay. Because these promotional cards were not part of the standard booster release schedule and were issued in limited quantities to specific venues, they have become sought-after artifacts for collectors focused on the history of Magic: The Gathering's early promotional era.
