Clifftop Retreat // Clifftop Retreat

Clifftop Retreat was originally released as part of the Innistrad set in 2011, designed as a rare land card that provides utility by producing two colors of mana if the player controls certain basic land types. The version included in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Art Series was released in late 2023, specifically focusing on showcasing the aesthetic contributions of the game's illustrators. These cards feature full-art illustrations without the traditional text boxes, intended to highlight the intricate fantasy landscapes created for the Ixalan setting.

The art featured on this specific card was crafted to align with the Mesoamerican-inspired aesthetics of Ixalan, emphasizing lush, vertical architecture and a sense of discovery. As part of the Art Series, this item was distributed via booster packs to serve as a collectible centerpiece for enthusiasts of the game's visual identity. It received appreciation from players who value the narrative world-building of Magic: The Gathering, acting as a small-scale canvas for the artist's conceptual vision of a remote, elevated sanctuary.
