Walk with the Ancestors // Walk with the Ancestors

The Walk with the Ancestors Art Series card originates from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan set, released by Wizards of the Coast in late 2023. These collectible art cards are non-gameable inserts designed to showcase the high-fantasy aesthetics of the Ixalan plane, a world heavily inspired by Mesoamerican cultures, dinosaur-era geology, and subterranean exploration. The set was conceived to highlight the intricate craftsmanship of Magic: The Gathering's illustration team, moving away from traditional game mechanics to prioritize visual appreciation.

The illustration for this specific card was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan. Known for a style that emphasizes light, texture, and mystical atmosphere, Setiawan was tasked with depicting the spiritual themes inherent to the Ixalan setting. The artwork captures a solemn, ethereal connection between the characters and their heritage, utilizing a vibrant palette that aligns with the jungle and cave motifs of the expansion. Upon release, the Art Series was well-received by collectors who sought to curate portfolios of the game's evolving artistic direction.
