Where it came from
Sunforger was originally introduced in the 2005 Magic: The Gathering set Ravnica: City of Guilds. It was designed to represent the weaponry of the Boros Legion, a faction defined by their military order and martial prowess. The card's unique ability—allowing a player to search their library for a red or white instant spell and cast it—was intended to capture the flavor of a soldier pulling a specific, tactical response directly from the armory of their guild.
The Double Masters iteration, which features the artwork of Mike Uziel, serves as a high-quality reprint of the classic utility artifact. In the context of the game, the card is respected for its complex interaction with the stack and its enduring viability in eternal formats. The design focus for this version remained true to the original's gritty aesthetic, emphasizing the hammer’s functional, heavy design language that resonates with collectors who value both competitive utility and the thematic consistency of the Boros identity.
