Provenance

Where it came from

Construct, identified as token T1 in The Brothers' War expansion of Magic: The Gathering, represents the mechanical soldiers central to the lore of the set. Released in November 2022, this set revisited the conflict between brothers Urza and Mishra, two legendary artificers whose rivalry shaped the history of the plane of Dominaria. The token was designed to serve as a physical manifestation of the artifact creatures frequently summoned by the set's cards, grounding the abstract mechanics of the game in the industrial, artifact-heavy aesthetic of the narrative.

The visual design of the Construct token reflects the gritty, functionalist aesthetic established for the Brothers' War era, emphasizing rusted metal, steam-powered mechanisms, and the brutalist architecture of the warring factions. Wizards of the Coast utilized a consistent artistic direction across the set to ensure that tokens felt like authentic pieces of the world's machinery. Upon release, these tokens were well-received by players for their utility in gameplay and their thematic consistency with the retro-styled frame treatments featured throughout the set.
