Where it came from
Costume Shop is a card from the 2022 Magic: The Gathering set Unfinity, which serves as the fourth installment in the series of 'silver-bordered' or 'un-sets' designed for casual, humor-focused gameplay. Released by Wizards of the Coast, this set was crafted to blend traditional strategic mechanics with the whimsical, space-carnival aesthetic of the Myra the Magnificent attraction park. The design team, led by Mark Rosewater, aimed to integrate elements of classic science fiction and amusement park tropes while experimenting with stickers and attractions as new, unique game pieces.
The card features an illustration by artist Livia Prima, who utilized a vibrant, detailed style to capture the atmosphere of a bustling theater or park wardrobe department. As part of the wider Unfinity lineup, the card was received as a playful addition to the game's expansive catalog, specifically designed to interact with the set's unique attraction mechanics. It stands as a testament to the creative freedom allowed within the set's setting, offering players a thematic, immersive way to manipulate the state of the board through the use of costume-themed counters.
