Crystal Rod

The Crystal Rod card is part of the Summer Magic set, a scarce and highly specialized print run of the Magic: The Gathering base set released in 1994. Often referred to as the Edgar set due to an internal codename at the printing facility, these cards were intended for distribution in the summer of 1994 but were largely withheld from the market following the discovery of significant production errors, including misprints and color saturation issues.

The design of the Crystal Rod itself stems from the original Alpha and Beta core sets, featuring the classic fantasy iconography common to early Magic: The Gathering card design. While the original illustration for the rod was credited to artist Dan Frazier, the Summer Magic version is distinguished by its unique color palette and printing characteristics resulting from the corrective efforts at the Carta Mundi facility, making it a sought-after rarity for specialized collectors.
