Where it came from
Curse of Silence was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. The card belongs to the 'Curse' enchantment cycle, a thematic staple of the plane of Innistrad, which draws heavily from Gothic horror tropes. This specific promo version, identified by collector number 15p, was distributed through promotional channels to celebrate the set's release, featuring unique border treatments distinct from the standard booster pack version.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the haunting aesthetic of Innistrad by depicting a tethered spirit silenced by ritualistic magic. The design intent was to provide players with a tax-based political tool in multiplayer formats, forcing opponents to pay extra mana to cast specific spells. Upon its release, it was well-received by the Commander community for its ability to disrupt key strategies while maintaining the flavor of a lingering, oppressive enchantment.
